Sharpen your child’s chess skills with National Master Ryan Young at the Boylston Chess Club. This 8-week session consists of 90-minute classes aimed at setting a strong chess foundation through instruction, exercises, and guided play.
Class Details:
Class Time: Sundays: 10:00am - 11:30pm
Dates: Oct 11 – Dec 13 (no class on Nov 8 and Nov 28)
Location: 35 Kingston St Boston, MA 02111
Age Range: 7-12 years old
Rating Rage: 500 - 1000 (Students should be familiar with how the pieces move and basic rules.)
Class Topics:
Intro to Thinking Techniques (Spotting checks, captures and threats)
Basic Attack and Defense (How to coordinate pieces and deal with opponents threats)
Understanding Opening Principles (and why they matter)
Mastering Basic Checkmates (King+Queen vs King, King+Rook vs King, etc)
Developing Tactical Vision (Forks, Pins, Discoveries and how to spot them)
Endgame Themes (Passed Pawns, Using the King, Opposition, etc)
